DISCUSSION
-----------------------------------
Tropical Cyclone Claudia has weakened substantially into a Tropical Storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale and is expected to continue generally southwestward for the rest of the Western Region and weaken even further into a Tropical Depression as it breathe its last breath of life. Claudia's deep convection has mostly diminished under the influence of cooler sea surface temperatures and is likely to be devoid of convection as the system continues to trek across colder waters. Wind shear is generally unfavorable at 25KTS and likely to drop temporarily to 5-10KTS on Jan 15-16 and increase back again to 25KTS by Jan 17. Sea surface temperatures have fallen to below tropical cyclogenesis threshold at 26C and likely to drop further. Models are in excellent agreement that the system is likely to move southwestward across the southeast Indian Ocean, where it is expected to shift west under the influence of increased trade flow. Furthermore, models expect Claudia to quickly weaken further and subsequently into a Tropcial Depression. The Bureau is indicating that Claudia has weakened into a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone and it is expected to rapidly weaken into a Tropical Low by Jan 16.
