Cyclone Asani a Bay of Bengal Rainfall Threat – Video Update

0

Cyclone Asani reached its first peak earlier today as a 75mph Category 1 hurricane equivalent storm, and whilst satellite imagery is showing degradation this evening, agencies are still forecasting strengthening tomorrow and possibly into Tuesday as the storm nears the eastern coast of India.

When it nears the coast, Asani is expected to turn eastwards. Models are currently split on how close the storm will get before it executes its turn, and significant wind impacts to India cannot be ruled out.

Heavy rain is expected to begin tomorrow in southern Bangladesh and along the Myanmar coast, and this is set to continue for the whole week. Rainfall in association with the storm could top 1000mm of accumulations by the end of the week.
