LIVE – Typhoon Nanmadol over Japan, Fiona near Puerto Rico
Typhoon Nanmadol peaked as a Category 5 earlier and remains a powerful typhoon as it moves across the Japanese islands. Cities including Kagoshima, Fukuoka, and Tottori could be faced with devastating damage from the storm. Warnings are in effect. Tropical Storm Fiona is organizing as it moves towards the northwest, poised to become a hurricane and make landfall over Puerto Rico later today. Dangerous winds, storm surge and rainfall accumulations of 10-15 inches (250-375mm) with potentially higher amounts in isolated areas are all a threat in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas over the next few days before the storm moves out to sea, potentially affecting Bermuda later on.
