After rapidly intensifying in the past 2 days, Nanmadol has reached the top of the scale – Category 5 status, with winds of 160mph and a pressure of 910mb. The storm poses a significant risk to Japan, where heavy rainfall is likely to be the biggest threat. Strong winds will be a big threat as well, as the typhoon is forecast to strike as a low-end Category 3 with winds of 115mph in 2 days.
