Tropical Disturbance reaching Indian Coast – November 22, 2022 Tropical Weather Bulletin

Not much has changed in the tropics in the last couple days, although a tropical disturbance in the Bay of Bengal is now reaching the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India, and affecting the region with bands of rain as far south as Chennai. Whilst it’s unlikely now that this system will become a tropical storm, heavy rainfall could cause small scale flooding issues, particularly along the coast. The tropical depression south of Indonesia continues to churn, and is likely to dissipate soon as it slowly turns towards Australia. Medium and long range models are starting to pick up on a potential typhoon threat through the Micronesian islands in the Western Pacific next week. The GFS is particularly aggressive, forecasting the formation of a significant typhoon by the weekend, and eventually taking it towards the Philippines as a major typhoon next week.
