Slow moving Typhoon Soulik strengthens

Typhoon Soulik strengthened over the course of today, and is slowly moving towards the west-northwest.
In last night’s update, Soulik had just reached Category 2 status, and whilst it has struggled to complete its eyewall, an impressive eye structure has appeared, warranting a further upgrade to Category 3.
It remains unclear how strong the storm will grow, but Category 4 status is starting to become less likely, and is only supported by the CTCX model, which has been going out on a limb for some time now.
Regardless, a significant threat lingers over western Japan as we enter the new week, with a Category 3 landfall among the list of possibilities and a typhoon landfall for South Korea can’t be ruled out either.
