Cyclone Chido Peaks as Category 4 Cyclone, Set to Approach Madagascar
Cyclone Chido peaked as a high-end category 4 earlier today at 06:00z at a position of 11 degrees South and 55 degrees East, with wind speeds of 155mph and a pressure of 928mb. As the day ends, Northeastern parts of Madagascar should be preparing for Chido to brush by the the extreme Northeastern parts of Madagascar as a weak category 3 cyclone on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. As of now (20z 12 Dec 2024,) Météo Madagascar has rough swell warnings in place for areas from Cape of Ambre to Vohemar and Mahajanga. Cyclone Chido is expected to bring around 1 to 2 inches of rain to the North Eastern parts of Madagascar over the next 4 days. In addition, Cyclone Chido’s main hazards over the next couple of days are strong winds, extreme swells and heavy rainfall.
