Powerful Hurricane Orlene nears Puerto Vallarta Mexico – Live Coverage Starting at 20z (2PM MDT)
Hurricane Orlene rapidly strengthened early this morning to become a Category 4 hurricane, and is now starting to cool down and weaken as it continues to track towards the Mexican provinces of Jalisco, Nayarit and Sinaloa in the next couple of days. The storm is likely to make landfall or pass close to the Islas Marias, off to the west of Nayarit, before sweeping northwards. Orlene is likely to continue weakening up to its final landfall in Mexico, but may still have hurricane winds by then. Orlene is likely to cause heavy rain, landslides and storm surge along coastal regions of Mexico, with maximum rainfall totals expected to reach 250mm, with higher values on the Islas Marias.
