DISCUSSION ----------------------------------- Tropical Storm 09S continues generally southward in the open waters of the Southwest Indian Ocean. MeteoFrance have recently downgraded the intensity of this system to a Tropical Disturbance from a Tropical Depression. This system is currently producing intermittent areas of convection near the center of the system, but it is recently showing signs of weakening as the convection is not as well pronounced as it was 12 hours ago. Latest microwave pass from AMSU-B indicated that this system is no longer producing towering convection over at the center of the system, but rather some stray convection towards the east. Wind shear is currently moderate at 20KTS and expected to increase to unfavorable levels by today Jan 23, owing to proximity with other disturbances to the west and the westerlies respectively. Sea surface temperatures remains somewhat favorable at 27C and expected to drop to below favorable threshold by midday today. Models are in excellent agreement that the system is expected to continue southeast towards the mid-latitudes before moving towards the east under the influence from the westerlies. It is also noted that models have stopped calling for ant further intensification, but could intensify as an extratropical system far south. Please visit MétéoFrance for official forecasts and warnings. THIS IS THE LAST REGULARLY SCHEDULED BULLETIN. NO MORE BULLETINS WILL BE ISSUED. $$ Forecaster Knack
